WHAT ARE PHTHALATES?

Phthalates are a group of chemicals used in products like toys, detergents, nail polish, and hair spray. They are commonly used to make products more flexible and harder to break, similar to plastic or silicon.

WHY WOULD COMPANIES USE PHTHALATES?

The simple explanation is that certain aroma chemicals come in a powder form.  Commonly a Phthalate like Diethylphthalate (DEP) is utilized to convert these powders into a liquid form.  As a result, the scent lasts will typically last longer.  However, Phthalates can cause damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs & reproductive system.
